December 2023 Release Information
New Features
The following section provides information on the new features and enhancements in this release.
- AP 7.0 or R770 Support:
RUCKUS One is excited to deliver support for the first enterprise Wi-Fi 7 access
point, the R770! This marks the first commercially available Wi-Fi 7 access point
and the start of the Wi-Fi 7 era. Many new capabilities are part of the Wi-Fi 7
standard, refer to https://www.ruckusnetworks.com/solutions/technology/wi-fi-7/ for more
details. For more information about the AP 7.0 firmware, refer to the RUCKUS One AP 7.0 Firmware
Release Notes. High-level Wi-Fi 7 feature offerings:
- Multi-Link Operation
(MLO) Support for Wi-Fi7 APs: MLO capable Wi-Fi 7 Wireless
clients can now associate on multiple radio bands and dynamically switch
between multiple bands leading to increased throughput and reduced
latency as supported via 802.11BE/WiFi-7 standard. Note: The Wi-Fi 7 feature Multi-Link Operation (MLO) is available, pending the client OS and driver support. It would be mandated to use WPA3 encryption with MLO to secure your Wi-Fi network in OS.
- 320 MHZ Channelization: 320 MHz-radio frequency is available for the R770 AP 6 GHz radio frequency which is the first WiFi7 Enterprise AP.
- R7.0-Single LED requirements: A unified LED model that displays the most pertinent status on operation of the AP.
- TPM2 in Wi-Fi 7 board: Updated cryptographic chip which is TPM2.0 TSG specification compliant to better secure hardware from unauthorized use and tampering.
- Secure Boot support in RUCKUS APs: Protections placed in R770 AP to ensure only software properly signed and authorized by Ruckus Wireless is run on the AP to avoid unauthorized hacking or tampering of the device.
- Add iPerf server/client in the AP CLI: The iPerf utility is embedded in the AP’s Command Line Interface to conveniently run performance tests which will help in debugging and serviceability.
- WPA3 on SmartMesh: Utilizing WPA3 encryption on Ruckus Wireless SmartMesh feature.
- Increase per AP scalability of Dynamic VLANs: Increased the number of Dynamic VLANs to 128 to provide better support of ease of administration, confinement of broadcast domains, reduced network traffic, and enforcement of security policies.
- Client roaming with AVC information: Enhancements to better manage traffic between roaming clients and APs.
- QoS Mirroring Improvement: Allows an AP to give certain applications (for example, Zoom, FaceTime) higher priority when it comes to Quality of Service.
- Wi-Fi 7 Preamble Puncturing: Ability to break a frequency channel into discontinuous pieces when there is interference in the frequency.
- Wi-Fi 6/Wi-Fi 7 toggle: If your clients are not capable of supporting the latest Wi-Fi capabilities, a toggle is available to turn off 802.11ax/be capabilities per WLAN. This will revert these WLANs to supporting 802.11ac wave2 or older protocols, which can be beneficial in environments where there are many legacy devices.
- Per AP radio configuration: Users can now customize the radio settings on a per access point basis. Previously, the radio configuration was only available for the Venue and the specific Access Point model, this enhancement allows for more granular control on a per device basis.
- Customer Beta program: Customers can now opt-in to try out new RUCKUS One beta features before they are officially released and supported. In this release, opt-in for Beta is a global configuration per tenant. All beta features will be made available to the customer when they opt into the program.
- MSP bulk firmware management: Managed Service Providers (MSPs) are now able to schedule firmware upgrades for multiple tenants with only a few clicks from their MSP dashboard! Select one or more customers, select the time frame for upgrade and go!
- MSP Alarms: MSPs can once again see alarms raised within customer accounts directly on the dashboard. Easily understand which customers are currently encountering issues and know where to best apply technical resources.
- Multi-delegation support: Customers can now delegate tenant access to multiple 3rd-party users. Previously, customers were limited to a single delegated reseller or other resource. With this release, customers can now delegate to multiple additional users and organizations for assistance in the management and support of their RUCKUS One environment.
- MSP Assign Subscriptions: To date, RUCKUS MSP customers were required to purchase MSP SKUs in order to be able to assign subscriptions to their MSP End Customers (MSP ECs). Furthermore, RUCKUS MSP customers were required to purchase REC SKUs in order to be able to use them for their own MSP account. As of this release, a new capability is introduced: MSP Assign Subscriptions. This feature allows RUCKUS MSP customers to only purchase MSP SKUs and use them for both MSP End Customers as well as assign any desired quantity to their own MSP account. This new flexibility allows RUCKUS MSP customers to enjoy the price advantage that MSP SKUs provide them for both their MSP End Customers as well as for their own MSP account. Furthermore, this new capability allows RUCKUS MSPs to streamline their purchase practice and be consistent with only purchasing MSP SKUs. It should be noted that as of Q1-2024, all renewals of expiring RUCKUS One subscriptions of RUCKUS MSPs entitlements, will be renewed to MSP SKUs only. RUCKUS MSP customers will be able to use the new MSP Assign Subscriptions to assign licenses for their own account.
