MSP Service Expiration and Entitlement Ending Scenarios

Glossary

  • Service expiration– the time at which service and support for end customer is completed from the MSP.
  • MSP entitlement – the period up to which MSPs have valid RUCKUS license terms that they can assign to their end customers for service.

Scenario 1:

Consider two assignments -

  • Wi-Fi MSP Entitlements expiring on June 30. Service was added in Jan and Service expiry date on June 30.

  • Switch MSP Entitlements expiring on Dec 31. Service was added in March and Service expiry date on Dec 31.

  • Edit the customer, add switch entitlements, edit service expiry date to Dec 31

  • Both assignments will go through, assignment for Wi-Fi will terminate on June 30

  • Assignment for switch will terminate on Dec 31

  • MSP will be able to view earliest service expiry date in the MSP end-customers table

Scenario 2:

Consider two assignments -

  • Wi-Fi MSP Entitlements are expiring on June 30. Service was added in Jan and MSP tries to add customer for the first time with service expiration date of Dec 31.

  • UI should let the service expiration date to be set for Dec 31 and it does.

  • Assignment for Wi-Fi will go through. However, the service will terminate on June 30

  • The flexibility of allowing MSPs to provide extended service expiration date gives them time to activate service for MSP end customers and then purchase licenses from RUCKUS.

  • Switch MSP Entitlements expiring on June 30th. Service was added in March and Service expiry date is on Dec 31. At the time of adding switch MSP entitlements, there are not enough licenses.

  • Similar behavior to Wi-Fi above.

MSP End Customers Out of Compliance

MSP end customers has 200 Wi-Fi entitlements, and they have service expiry date of June 30th. On July 1st, MSP has not made any more service assignments or extensions. This is the case where MSP end customers is out of compliance.

In this release, MSP end customer's network will continue to operate. MSP end customers cannot add new devices, but they can still login to the portal.

MSP Out of Compliance

MSP has 200 Wi-Fi entitlements, and they have assigned 180 to MSP end customers. So, 180 out of 200 are being utilized. Let’s say 100 entitlements expire. Now only 100 entitlements are valid, and 180 assignments are already made. So, 180 out of 100 are being utilized. This is the case where MSP is out of compliance.

In this case, MSP cannot add other MSP end customers. MSP can only reduce assignments to end customers but cannot increase them. MSP can still login to the MSP portal.
