Applying the Energy Saving Intent

Before you apply the Energy Saving Intent, ensure that it is enabled through Intent Settings. For more information, refer to Managing Intent Settings.

Once enabled, IntentAI includes the feature in its next processing cycle (typically within 24 hours of the next scheduled run) and generates a new Energy Saving Intent for each applicable Venue.

IntentAI provides two methods for applying the Energy Saving Intent with different levels of control and operational preference.

  • 1-Click Optimize: This option offers a quick, hands-off approach where the system instantly applies the default AI-recommended configuration based on the prioritized intent, enabling Energy Saving on eligible access points and optimizing energy usage with minimal manual input. For more information, refer to Applying an Intent Using the 1-Click Optimize Option.
  • Optimize: This option offers a guided workflow that presents detailed analytics, performance indicators, benefits, configuration choices, and potential trade-offs, enabling you to review and customize the Intent before applying it, ensuring alignment with specific network priorities such as energy efficiency or mission-critical reliability.

Applying the Energy Saving Intent Using the Optimize Option

The Optimize option launches a workflow wizard that guides you through a detailed analysis of the Energy Saving Intent. This process allows you to review key performance indicators (KPIs), trade-offs, configuration choices that define the Intent priorities, and configuration options that allow you to schedule the start time for applying the Intent and to exclude specific APs or AP Groups from being transitioned into PowerSave mode. The wizard also presents summary projections that estimate the expected impact on various KPIs and metrics once the Intent is applied.

Complete the following steps to apply the Energy Saving Intent using the Optimize option.

  1. From the navigation bar, select AI Assurance > AI Analytics > IntentAI. The IntentAI page is displayed.
  2. In the IntentAI table, select the Energy Saving Intent with the status labeled New. The options bar appears above the IntentAI table.
  3. Click Optimize. A workflow wizard is displayed to guide you through the configuration process.
The Introduction page of the workflow wizard provides a snapshot of the Intent details such as the venue, current status, last updated date, a brief description of the Intent, and the expected benefits of applying the recommended changes.
The Metrics panel provides quantitative insights into the distribution of APs participating in Energy Saving. By distinguishing between AI-optimized, excluded, and unsupported APs, it helps you to assess the overall effectiveness of AI-driven energy optimization, verify exclusion choices, and view APs that do not support Energy Saving, ensuring informed decisions for energy efficiency planning.
    • AI-Optimized APs: Displays the number of APs currently using AI-driven Energy Saving to optimize power consumption, out of the total number of APs.
    • Excluded APs: Displays the number of APs manually excluded from Energy Saving, which continue to operate at normal power.
    • Unsupported APs: Displays the number of APs that do not support Energy Saving due to hardware limitations.
  4. Click Next to proceed to the Intent Priority page of the workflow wizard.
IntentAI presents two configuration choices that define the Intent priorities. By default, one option is preselected, but you can modify the selection based on your desired goal for power and performance optimization. For more information about feature-specific Intents and priority details, refer to AI Feature-specific Intents, Network Priorities, and Scope.
  5. Select the Intent priority by clicking either the radio button or the priority selection in the table.
  6. Click Next to proceed to the Settings page of the workflow wizard. This page allows you to configure when and how the Energy Saving Intent should be applied.
  7. Select the date and time in the calendar to schedule the time at which you want to apply the Intent for the first time.

Once applied, IntentAI continuously monitors the network and automatically activates or adjusts the Energy Saving plan whenever required.

  8. (Optional) Define exclusions to prevent Energy Saving from being applied during certain times or on specific APs or AP Groups.
    1. Exclude specific time periods by selecting the Do not apply Energy Saving during the following time slots of the week checkbox. A time-slot selection pane appears, showing 24 hourly slots for each day of the week. Select the time slots when Energy Saving must not be triggered. During these slots, all APs will operate in normal power mode.
    2. Exclude APs or AP Groups by selecting the Do not apply Energy Saving to the following APs checkbox. A list of available AP Groups and APs appears. Select the APs or AP Groups to be excluded from being moved to reduced power mode. These APs will continue to operate at normal power and will not be considered for PowerSave mode transitions.
  9. Click Next to proceed to the Summary page of the workflow wizard.
The Summary page provides a quick summary of the configuration recommendation and schedule defined for Intent activation. It allows you to review the selected parameters before finalizing the Intent application.

The Projection section displays key metrics and expected changes based on the last algorithm run when the Intent is applied.

    • Energy Saving Ready APs: Displays the number of APs currently managed by AI-Driven Energy Saving to reduce power consumption, relative to the total number of APs.
    • Energy Saving Excluded APs: Displays the number of APs that were manually excluded from AI-Driven Energy Saving. These APs remain in normal-power mode and are not transitioned into PowerSave mode.
    • Energy Saving Unsupported APs: Displays the number of APs that do not support Energy Saving due to hardware limitations.
    • Power Consumption: Displays the total daily power consumption of all APs in the Venue, measured in kilowatt-hours (kWh).
  10. Click Apply to activate the Intent at the scheduled time.
Intents that are applied successfully are also reflected on the Config Change page. For more information, refer to the Configuration Change section.
