Alarms

Alarms are notifications or alerts generated by RUCKUS One to indicate issues or changes within a network or for your tenant account. They are early warning signs for network administrators, helping them to quickly identify and address problems.

Alarms can indicate a multitude of issues or changes within the network such as hardware failures, connectivity issues, performance issues, potential security threats, configuration changes, and so on, thereby allowing for preventive measures. For historical reference, RUCKUS One keeps the last 90 days of alarm data. On the Dashboard, the Alarms tile displays a real-time, at-a-glance, visual indicator of the active alarms for your tenant account and your account networks. When no alarms have been generated, or they have all been cleared, the message No active alarms is displayed. Otherwise, a simple number reflects the total number of active (uncleared) alarm notifications that have been generated (for example, 11 in the image). The number appears inside an interactive, color-coded circle. Details of each alarm are displayed in the Alarms sidebar, accessible in several ways:
  • Click anywhere on the Alarms tile to view all alarms.
  • Click on a specific color on the circle to view alarms of that type (orange for Major and red for Critical).
  • Click the icon at the top right corner of the RUCKUS One web interface to view all alarms.
Alarm Notifications
The Alarms sidebar contains two sub-tabs, New Alarms (displayed by default) and Cleared Alarms. The New Alarms tab displays alarms of all severities, providing a clearly worded description of the issue, displaying when it was generated, and specifying the product device type for which the alarm was generated. Each severity level reflects the seriousness of an issue and aids in prioritizing responses. The severity filter defaults to All Severities, but you may choose to filter on one of the following alarm severities:
  • Critical: Indicates a severe issue that has caused a significant service disruption or failure. Immediate action is required to restore service. Critical alarm notifications are represented by the icon.
  • Major: Represents a serious problem that has degraded service significantly and needs prompt attention to prevent complete service loss. Major alarm notifications are represented by the icon.

The Products filter displays alarms by device type, such as Wi-Fi, Switch, and RUCKUS Edge. By default, regardless of filtering, the alarms are displayed in chronologically descending order; however, you can click the Generated on column header to sort the list in ascending order.

You may clear all or individual alarms regardless of filtering:
  • If no filtering is applied, click Clear all alarms to clear the complete list of notifications at once.
  • If filtering is applied, click Clear filtered alarms to clear the complete list of notifications at once.
  • Regardless of filtering, click the icon to clear individual alarms.

Once cleared, the alarm notification moves to the Cleared Alarms tab.

In the Cleared Alarms tab, you can see a record of all alarms from the past 90 days that have been cleared, including the date and time they were cleared and by whom. This helps in maintaining a clear and organized log of device statuses and ensures that you can easily track the resolution of any issues. The Cleared Alarms tab displays alarms cleared both manually (for which the Cleared By column displays the administrator account name) and by the system (for which the Cleared By column displays SYSTEM).

Note: The system automatically clears alarms related to a device becoming disconnected from the cloud controller; the alarm is cleared after the device reconnects, is active, and is functioning properly.

All cleared alarms are displayed in descending order of date and time in the Cleared on column. You can manually sort the alarms based on three columns: Generated on, Cleared on, and Cleared by.

The following image shows a before-and-after scenario. Before, the Alarms tile reflects 11 alarms and the New Alarms tab in the sidebar is filtered by Major severity and by Switch product, resulting in two of the eleven alarms meeting those criteria. After clicking Clear filtered alarms, the Alarms tile refreshes to display the remaining number of uncleared alarms (9) and the two cleared alarms are shown in the Cleared Alarms tab.
Clearing Filtered Alarms
After all alarm notifications are cleared, the Alarms tile displays No active alarms as shown in the following figure.
