Channel Mode

Some countries restrict certain 5 GHz channels for indoor use only. For instance, Germany restricts channels in the 5.15 GHz to 5.35 GHz band for indoor use.

When RUCKUS outdoor APs (including the P300, T310, T610, and T710) are set to a country code where these restrictions apply, the AP or Bridge can no longer be set to an indoor-only channel and will no longer select from among a channel set that includes these indoor-only channels, unless the administrator specifically configures the AP to allow use of these indoor-only channels.

If you have an indoor AP serving as the Mesh uplink to an outdoor mesh AP, the Mesh backhaul link must initially use a non-indoor-only channel. Your RUCKUS outdoor Mesh APs may fail to join if the Mesh backhaul link is using a restricted indoor-only channel.

For instance, if the AP is installed in a challenging indoor environment such as a warehouse, the administrator may want to allow the AP to use indoor-only channels. The indoor-only channels can be enabled through the AP CLI (allow-indoor from the system configuration mode) or the ZoneDirector web interface by configuring the Channel Mode setting.

Note: If you select the Country Code as "United States", the Channel Optimization option is shown. Refer to Channel Optimization for more information. The Channel Mode and Channel Optimization options cannot be used at the same time.

After migration, the Allow indoor channels (allows Outdoor APs to use channels regulated as indoor use only) option is retained in RUCKUS One as Use same channels for indoor and outdoor APs option. Refer to Viewing the Migrated ZoneDirector Radio and Channel Configuration for more information.
