Upgrading the AP Firmware Version in a Venue

The RUCKUS One web interface supports AP firmware updates at the venue level.

Management of AP firmware updates requires the AP to be onboarded to RUCKUS One and associated with a venue.

Successful update of AP firmware, whether scheduled or through Update Now, requires the AP to be onboarded to RUCKUS One, associated with a venue, in the Update available state, and running a lower firmware version than the selected firmware version.

Perform only the steps that are necessary based upon the options you wish to execute:

  • The Update Now option appears only if there is new AP firmware available.
  • The Update with Early Access Now option appears if there is a new early access AP firmware available.
  • The Skip Update option appears only if there is a scheduled update pending (you will see a date and time slot in the Next Update Schedule column).

  • The Change Update Schedule option allows you to control AP firmware updates for selected venues. You can enable Update firmware by AP model and select a firmware version independently for each supported AP model within the venue. By default, only the latest four firmware versions are displayed, and you can use the firmware version search option to view additional versions. You can also select Show APs with available firmware only to display only AP models for which newer firmware versions are available.

    For each AP model, you can select a specific firmware version or choose Do not update firmware on selected venues to exclude the selected venues from firmware updates for that AP model.

    The Next Update Schedule column displays the date and time of the next scheduled firmware update for the venue.

    Note: When a venue contains multiple AP models, you can assign different firmware versions to different AP models as part of the same update schedule.

  • The Downgrade option is available when the selected venue contains APs running a firmware version that can be downgraded. For venues in which all APs are running the latest firmware version, the Status column displays Up to date. For venues in which one or more APs are running the latest firmware version, the Status column may display Update available.

    ATTENTION: Downgrading AP firmware can cause network interruptions, may affect recently introduced features, and may reduce functionality available in later firmware releases.

    Note: You can downgrade only one venue at a time.
    Note: If all APs in the venue were running the latest firmware version and the Status column displayed Up to date, the Status column displays Update available after the downgrade is complete.

Update with Early Access AP Firmware
  1. On the RUCKUS One web interface, select Administration > Account Management > Version Management and select the AP Firmware tab.

    The Firmware Update dialog box appears.

  2. Update APs associated with one or more venues.

    Select one of the following firmware update methods:

    • Update firmware by venue: Displays the recommended firmware version available for each AP model in the selected venues. Select the firmware version to install, or select Do not update firmware on selected venues to retain the current firmware version.

    • Update firmware by AP model: Displays available firmware versions for each AP model. By default, Show APs with available firmware only is enabled. Select a firmware version for each AP model from the drop-down list. Clear Show APs with available firmware only to display all AP models, including those already running the latest firmware version.

    • Update firmware by AP: Displays individual APs from the selected venues. Use the search field to locate APs by device name or model and optionally filter APs by AP group. Select one or more APs to update.

  3. Click Update Firmware. The Status column shows the status as Up to date when the update completes.
