Location Based Service Server Overview

Location-Based Service (LBS) utilize the geographical location of a device to provide personalized and context-aware services.

LBS can offer a wide range of functionalities, enhancing the user experience by enabling features such as location-aware access control, real-time location tracking, and geofencing. An LBS server is essential for ensuring real-time data analysis, storage, and distribution, enabling an efficient delivery of location-based services to users. Users are required to implement their own LBS server. The LBS workflow comprises three primary tasks:

  • Data Collection: Devices (such as smartphones) send location data to the server.
  • Data Processing: The server processes this data to determine the precise location.
  • Service Delivery: Based on the processed data, the server delivers location-based services, such as navigation, tracking, or geofencing to the end-users.

The Location Based Service page displays a summary of all the LBS server profiles that you have added to your RUCKUS One account:

Name Name of the LBS server. This is a sortable field. Click a specific LBS server name to view detailed information as follows:
  • Venue Name: Displays the names of the venues associated with the LBS server profile. Note that this is the name of a venue having Wi-Fi networks and networking devices (such as APs and switches) associated.
  • # of APs: Displays the number of APs that are currently associated with this LBS server profile for the specified venue. Click the number to view AP details.
  • # of Networks: Displays the number of networks that are currently associated with this LBS server profile for the specified venue.
LBS Server Venue Name Name of the venue in which the LBS server is housed. This is a sortable field. Note that this is not the same as the venue name associated with Wi-Fi networks and networking devices (such as APs and switches).
Server Configured domain IP address and port number of the server. This is a sortable field.
Venues Number of venues associated with a specific LBS server profile. Pause your pointer on the number to view the list of venues associated with this LBS server profile. This is a sortable field.
Location Based Service

You can customize which fields must appear in the Location Based Service table by clicking the icon and selecting or deselecting the desired column names. Optionally, you can click Reset to default to have all columns appear in the Location Based Service table.

You can search the list of LBS servers by entering a complete or partial LBS server name or LBS venue name or server IP address in the search field; all matching LBS servers are displayed. You can filter the list of LBS servers by Venue; you can make multiple selections. You can sort the list of LBS servers by clicking the associated column header.
